Alcoholics Anonymous offered me genuine help and support at a time in my life when I was crushed and broken. It has changed my life because I was given the tools to deal with life without a drink, and I now follow a healthy 'programme for living'. Alcoholism is the only illness to tell you you haven't got a problem... it isn't just about drinking alcohol and getting drunk - it's also about a mental twist so strong that obsession defies logic and can turn a person from reasonable and rational to wild and frenzied in their desperate attempts to control not only their own lives, but others too. I have known many alcoholics (those who have admitted they are powerless and have a problem) and my experience has shown that the only way to get sober and STAY sober is to really want it! AA offers friendship and help from people who understand 'exactly' what it means to be alcoholic. We've all been through our own personal 'hell' ~ and by sharing, trusting and reaching out we all walk the walk, one step at a time. With AA there is new life for 'everyone' that wants it. |
